Alternative Strings
Grades (6-12)

The Alternative Strings program at
Centerville High School is a performance and compitition group that
studies and performs music that that is not cosidered classical.
This includes bluegrass, jazz, pop, and folk.
 Congratulations
to the Alternative Strings on their successful and well received
performances this 2006 holiday season. This year Alternative performed
for a large crowd at the Town Mall, the Alzheimer’s care facility at
Laurel wood, and the Mall at Fairfield Commons. I must say that the
audience at the Fairfield Commons was just great! It was one of those
nights where everything went right! I have received so many
compliments from people who had no idea that string kids could
“rock-out” like that! We are currently working with one of our
favorite composers, Thom Sharp, whom we have commissioned a piece.
What a wonderful performance the
Alternative Strings gave at Lasagna & Strings. They have proved
themselves once again to be champions of versatility! I really enjoyed
our pit show and our stage show with vocals.
 We
had a great year in Alternative Strings! We performed a little more
this year and we covered a lot of different material. We also made a
great showing at the Cedar Point Music in the Parks competition. I
would like to give a very special thanks to all of my seniors...Thank
you for believing in the Alternative Strings mission and for carrying
the torch for so many years since it’s inception in 1999.
